The Best Hair Pieces for Alopecia Areata Reviewing Hair Patches by Newtimes Hair

(A review of the best hair pieces for alopecia areata: human hair patches from Newtimes Hair)
Hi, I’m Mel, the owner of Mello-Hair Salon in London. In 2014, I was hit with alopecia areata and turned to toppers and patches. They gave me back my confidence — and inspired me to help my clients find solutions that do the same.
Today, I will review one of the top-selling hair pieces for alopecia from Newtimes Hair — their human hair patches. These are mini hairpieces, which are a quick and reliable solution for people with alopecia areata like me, whose hair falls out and creates random bald spots. However, it’s usually challenging to cover bald spots at the front and side near the front using these hair patches, just like my client, Eliz.
Anyway, I cracked it. In this post, you will be shown exactly how I covered for her the two tricky spots at the front and side. I sincerely hope this will give you some inspiration during Alopecia Areata Awareness Month.

Step 1. Try to get the exact shape of the bald spot.
Place a clear film on the bald spot. Trace the outline with a safe marker. Mark the front, back, and sides. Newtimes Hair can provide you with professional, clear film when you order patches.

Step 2. Cut out the size and shape of your bald spot.
Move the film with the outline to stiff paper. Cut it out to make your template. Place it on the hair patch that matches your spot the best. Separate the hair and cut along the lines. Do the same with the double-sided wig tape you’ll use for attachment.

Step 3. All set for the application.
I applied it exactly to the size and shape with double-sided tape right onto the bald spot and gently pressed it down. It sticks right on, and then you are ready to go. After the application, you can see that the patches blend right into her hair, and it looks perfectly natural. You can’t tell, even up close.
Here is the after photo of the hair patch applied:

All About Cutting the Best Hair Pieces for Alopecia Areata
Hair patches come in different sizes, but mostly in the same shape, which is round. However, you or your client’s bald spot will rarely be exactly round for a hair patch to fit. So if you can get the shape and size correct, 80% of the job is done.
After the first piece is done, go on with another piece of tape and stick the tape to the back of the next patch. Then, go ahead and pop the hairpiece in place.
The front hairline can be tricky if your spot is there, like mine. Place the patch back far enough so it blends into your natural hairline. I’ve got two in right now. This whole side used to be bald.
You want to put them in the direction your hair lies. That’s why this one wants to come back that way. My normal hair part is over here, like you can see if it’s breezy.
When the wind blows, I fix it, and you’d never know I had bald spots. I don’t need a topper every day anymore. I curl the patches so they mix with my hair. You can style them however you like. The best part — I can wear a ponytail again. Pretty cool, right?
Can You Use Glue Instead to Apply Hair Patches?

Yes, you can. But unlike toupees or full hair replacement systems, hair patches are quite small. Though glue makes a solid attachment, it’s very easy for the glue to get onto your bio hair around the bald spot. You need a professional stylist to do that for you.
Brush a thin layer of professional adhesive on the underside of the polyurethane base. After that, wait until the glue turns tacky and almost dry. Then apply it carefully, making sure it doesn’t stick to the natural hair.
