How to Choose a Wig for Your Customers

Choosing suitable hair toupees for your different customers is very important for your hair business.  This blog will discuss how to choose a wig for your customers based on their different needs, and to provide you professional suggestions on how to choose base designs and confirm order details for your customers.

How to choose a wig that suits different kinds of customers?  First, select the appropriate base design. We can offer a variety of base designs such as lace, mono, skin, integration, etc. They fit different kinds of customers. Each of these will be discussed.

Lace Base

French lace is the most popular lace base. It is soft, natural hair wigs and breathable. Hair density for French lace is limited to medium-heavy. Also, it enables customers to have an invisible front hairline. Finally, bleach knots on the French lace base are available, so the knots on the front will be less visible and create a very natural effect.

Swiss lace is softer and more delicate than French lace, so it can only hold medium-light density, and the lifespan is shorter than French lace. Bleach knots are also available on Swiss lace. If your customer needs an ultra-soft and natural base design, and durability is not of concern, you can suggest a Swiss lace base.

Mono Base

The fine mono base is also commonly used. Its well-knit texture makes it more durable than a lace base and can hold extra heavy hair density. If your customer asks you how to choose toupees with a high hair density, the mono base is an excellent choice. Because the Mono base is easy to fray on the edge, PU is brushed on the edge to connect mono. Even though the mono base is very durable, customers must maintain it carefully, otherwise, there is a possibility that hair will shed partially on the mono base. Fine mono has very small holes. If the customer does not clean the shampoo, hair conditioner, glue, etc. completely from the hairpiece, the fine mono base will deteriorate gradually; leading to hair loss in the partial fine mono area. The hair will be broken on the hair root, and the hair in the PU area will not shed at all. It’s suggested that customers pay close attention to maintaining and cleaning the mono base thoroughly if they prefer a fine mono base.

Skin Base

Transparent skin is thin skin which is also called clear PU and is made of polyurethane material and creates a natural appearance like a human scalp.  Transparent skin can be ultra-thin at only 0.03mm, such as our stock model HS25-V. Although it’s paper-thin, natural and invisible, it is delicate and has a limited lifespan of about 1 month. Customers needing a very realistic skin base and do not care about the lifespan, suggest a 0.03mm clear PU to him. So choosing toupees in different skin thicknesses depends on your customer’s needs.

Let’s turn our attention to medical wigs. When your patient customer asks “which wig suits me?”, or  “which wig is best for me?”, suggest a medical hair wig. There are some common features of medical wigs. First, the base design should be soft and comfortable, so we usually do a stretch net in the crown area to better fit the customer’s head. Second, patient customers usually prefer silk top hair systems, so when they comb or part their hair in the front or top, there will be no knots at all, and the effect will be very similar to our scalp. Third, anti-slip silicone PU is usually added in front of temples, so their medical wigs will not fall easily. Last, to avoid using tape or liquid glue, we include an adjustable band around the sides and back. The customers can adjust the wig measurements just like hats. So medical wigs are designed for comfort and fit for patient customers.

When your female customers ask how to choose a wig when they still have some of their hair, an integration base design is appropriate for them. Female customers can naturally blend the integration toupee with her hair. However, the integration hair systems are not good for women who do not have their hair because their scalp will be visible through the integration holes. Only when female customers suffer partial hair loss and still have their remaining hair, integration base is a good suggestion.

When your customers ask you “Which wig suits me?” or “Which wig is best for me?”, you now can provide them with excellent suggestions respectively.

Besides base design, what other considerations should be considered when choosing the most appropriate toupee, that is suitable and natural, for your customers?  There are many other considerations to create a natural look and effect.

First, should you bleach knots? After bleaching, the knots will be less visible. However, not all hairpieces are compatible with bleached knots.  We usually bleach knots on lace, but not on skin. Furthermore, synthetic hair cannot be bleached either. Light color hair is more compatible with bleach knots. If the hair color is darker than #1B, we can’t bleach the knots, but if your customer still needs invisible knots, we offer a dye after service. We can first knot the lighter color around #8 on the base, and then dye the hair to a dark color after knotting.  In this way, the knots will appear lighter.

Dark Colored Hair System

Second, hair density is a very important aspect for customers to think about. Graduated density is an excellent suggestion. We usually use graduated density at the front to create a natural look. Graduated hair density means less density at the front, which graduates through to the main density of the hairpiece. This makes the front hairline more natural as it mimics the natural hair pattern. However, if your client needs thick hair at the front, then graduation is not necessary. If the front is a thick PU coat and the customer doesn’t want the front edge to be visible, we can add under hair instead.

Scallops are also effective in creating a natural front hairline. When a hairpiece has a lace or skin front, some customers ask for scallops at the front as they help to create a natural front hairline effect just like our irregular hairline.

How to choose toupees for your customers when they wear toupees in different ways? 

If customers attach toupees with glue or tape, suggest skin, lace, mono base, etc. Skin bases are easier to clean glue or tape from the hair replacement systems as compared with lace or mono base. Lace or mono bases have net holes. The glue may fill the holes and makes cleaning completely much more difficult. 

If customers still have their hair around the head, order some clips all around the toupee, enabling customers to use clips to fix the hair toupee onto their hair.  Also, if the customer is female, besides using clips, you can order the integration base for her to blend their hair with the integration hair system.

How to choose a wig with the correct hair density, hair color, or hair wave for your customers? It will be easier for you to confirm these details if the customer has an old hair system. You can refer to the specifications of the old piece or do some adjustments if needed. If an old hairpiece is not available, you can refer to our density ring, color ring, wave curl ring for guidance combined with the customer’s requirements. When selecting hair color and base size, to ensure a perfect fit, we highly suggest you send us a hair color sample or plastic template to duplicate.

I’d give HW1 a try. It looks natural and beautiful. Though we categorize it as a medical wig, almost any female can wear it. It’s got a lace mesh base, breathable, and flexible. I don’t like being confined in a very small space. I believe it was due to a childhood experience. When I was six years old, I accidentally tripped and fell into a shallow well. I had to wait for two hours before I was found. Since then, I’ve found I just can’t tolerate the idea of being alone. I guess that makes me an active team player.

  • You are happiest when…

This may sound boastful, but it’s true. It’s just part of my nature to help others. When I actually see that what I did for them has helped them achieve something, it just makes me excited.

I recomend HS25V. Oftentimes I’d introduce this model to my new clients to start with, so they can introduce this to their new clients see if hair systems are what really suit them, before they carry on with lace or mono hair systems.

I’m always fascinated about an exotic lifestyle. I really wish I could travel a lot, go to many different countries, and try their local gourmet food, and get in touch with the locals to actually have a feel of their culture.

I’m always afaid of heights. With any tall buildings, be it a chimney or TV tower, I look at it, and imagine I’m looking down right from the top, it will give me sweaty palms.

Not at all. I generally love all pets. Dog, cats, guinea pigs, rabits, etc. I love them.

When you feel tired,it means you are walking uphill. I believe this quote as a truth that gives me a lift whenever I’m down. I believe there’s no gain without pain. Without trying, we can’t achieve anything.

With me personally, the best-selling hair system has been HS1. It has what it’s required out of a good quality hair system, in terms of a natural-looking hairline, undetectable scalp, etc. Most wearers and salon owners are familiar with it.
